Esthetics

During cancer treatment, feeling good about how you look can be an important part of maintaining your confidence and well-being. Wearing a wig can help you regain a sense of normalcy and comfort if hair loss occurs, while using skincare products tailored to your changing needs can soothe and nourish your skin, which may be affected by treatments. Taking time for these small self-care rituals can make a big difference in how you feel, helping you embrace your beauty and strength, no matter what.

Permanent Cosmetic Tattoos

Permanent cosmetic tattoos for cancer patients are a type of cosmetic procedure designed to help restore or enhance appearance after treatments like chemotherapy or surgery. These tattoos are typically used for:

  1. Areola Reconstruction: After a mastectomy, permanent tattoos can be applied to recreate the appearance of the areola and nipple, helping patients feel more comfortable with their bodies.
  2. Eyebrows and Eyeliner: Many cancer patients experience hair loss, including eyebrows and eyelashes, due to chemotherapy. Permanent cosmetic tattoos can help restore the look of eyebrows and eyeliner, giving them a more natural appearance and improving self-esteem.
  3. Scalp Camouflage: For patients with significant hair loss, permanent tattoos can be used to create the illusion of hair follicles on the scalp, helping to reduce the visibility of thinning or bald areas.

These procedures are typically done by certified, skilled professionals specializing in medical tattoos. They can help cancer patients feel more confident and comfortable with their appearance during or after treatment.

Mastectomy Bras & Accessories

Recovery from a mastectomy can take time, as the body needs to heal from the surgery and adjust to the changes. Typically, it's recommended to wait at least 4 to 6 weeks before wearing a prosthesis, allowing for any swelling, bruising, or healing to subside. However, the exact timing may vary depending on individual healing progress and the advice of your surgeon or healthcare team. During the recovery period, it’s important to prioritize rest and follow any post-surgery care instructions to ensure proper healing before introducing a prosthesis.

Lymphedema Garments

Lymphedema compression garments are specially designed clothing, such as sleeves, stockings, or wraps, that apply gentle pressure to the affected area, usually the arms, legs,  torso, head, neck and genital areas. These garments help reduce swelling by promoting the flow of lymph fluid and preventing it from accumulating in tissues. They are commonly used in the treatment of lymphedema to manage symptoms, improve mobility, and reduce the risk of complications, such as infections. The garments are typically made of elastic materials and come in various sizes and compression levels, tailored to each individual’s needs.

  • Assistive Devices Program Funding

    Coverage

The Assistive Device Program (ADP) provides funding that may be eligible for up to 75% of the cost of compression garments for arms and legs. Unfortunately compression garments for other body parts are not covered by this program but you may have coverage through your private insurance.

    Assistive Devices Program Funding:

The Assistive Devices Program (ADP) for lymphadenopathy may be able to cover 75% of the cost of the compression garments for arms and legs. Compression garments for other areas are not covered by this program.

There are 3 steps for applying to the ADP:

    1. Be examined by your doctor or specialist. The examination will confirm that you need compression garments. Your doctor or specialist will refer you to an authorizer.
    2. Meet with the authorizer to determine which garment is best suited for your condition.
    3. North Bay: Contact Robinson’s Pharmasave, ADP-recognized compression therapy vendor to purchase the recommended garments.
    4. Verner: Pharmachoice, ADP-recognized therapy vendor in Verner to purchase the recommended garments.
